22And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission

Without shedding of blood, there is no remission (forgiveness) of sin. This goes all the way back to the garden. “If you eat of it, you shall surely die”, “the wages of what n are death”. Our rebellion in the garden requires death. Period. God just allows substitute for our blood. First the animals we were put in charge of, and then finally Jesus himself. But the bottom line, something must die due to sin. If we do not accept the substitutes offered, we die for our own sin.

It’s a legal judgement. We were warned. We rebelled anyway. We deserve the consequences promised, death. Anything less is mercy.

Everytime something dies, everytime we eat meat (something died so that we might live) we should be reminded of the continued consequence of sin.
