King David, before he was king, often stayed in fear for his very life. The current king, Saul, knew that David had been appointed to replace him, soon. Saul set out to kill David and prevent the end of his own reign. This was serious battle. Saul was fighting for his life and power, David fighting to just stay alive.
Yet David waited… Waited for God’s inspiration, action, anything. He knew that God and God alone could protect him. So he ran TO God. He did not step out on his own, under his own strength, with his own weapons. He waited on God.
Our life is no different. How often do we face serious challenges in life? Challenges seemingly intent to destroy us financially, emotionally, physically. Out of fear, frustration, anxiety … Do we step out on our own to protect ourselves? Do we take up our own arms… Talents, strength, the wisdom of man? Do we forge ahead under our own power to tackle these problems? What is the object of our faith?
David waited on God, because he knew that God and God alone was his shield. Nothing else would do. All else would fail.
Wait on God. He is either God of all or god of none.
