16 When all our enemies had heard of this, and all the neighboring Gentiles round about had taken note of it, they were very discouraged, for they knew that it was with our God’s help that this work had been completed.

Nehemiah 6

Have you been attacked?

As the returning exiles were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, the non-Jews attacked them constantly. They ridiculed, taunted, threatened, and harassed all those working on the walls. The more progress was made, the stronger the attacks became.

Just like our walk today! As we live our life for a holy God and do His work, the enemy takes notice and tries to stop us through blocks, harassment, discouragement, threats. The harder we work, the louder the voices against us become! But in the end, if we endure, if we persevere, if we work daily as the exiles did, if we watch over each other to sound the alarm if any are overwhelmed, then and only then comes success!

And at the conclusion, when the job is done, the world will clearly see that God himself did it! It is the pushing past human strength, the peace in a storm, the overwhelming need for a miracle that points the world to God instead of to us! If we could accomplish it without Him, the world would praise us. Only through the eyes of a miracles does God Himself get glory.

Our call is to point all glory to Him. That requires things to be so bad, so impossible, that we could not possible have succeeded on our own. Then and only then does God get the credit! Hang in there! Let God do the battle. Give Him the glory and the credit!
